David Beckham's 40th birthday in Marrakech clearly left a lasting impression on his wife, who unveiled a fashion collection inspired by the bash.

Treating a handful of press and buyers to a preview of her latest Victoria, Victoria Beckham line during London Fashion Week yesterday, the designer said “walking through the city’s beautiful Majorelle gardens” had served as a starting point.

Tom Cruise, Gordon Ramsay, Eva Longoria and Guy Ritchie were among guests who celebrated the former England captain’s milestone birthday at the Amanjena resort in Morocco in May.

Beckham, 41, pointed out her favourite pieces from the label’s latest offering. The line is a spin-off of the more expensive Victoria Beckham label, from which the latest collection was unveiled in New York last week.

Among Beckham’s favourites was a pair of cerise pink flared trousers and a mid-length

A-line printed with a “folk forest” motif. Keen to assert Victoria, Victoria Beckham as a playful incarnation which appeals to the younger consumer, Beckham also included trapeze jackets and embroidered mesh dresses in her collection for next summer. One fluid silk slip dress in tangerine and fuchsia also stood out, while a ladybird motif was among the playful additions.

Beckham, who describes her Victoria line as “the other half of her wardrobe”, has also upped the denim on offer for next season.

Jeans detailed with white eyelets - “I call these the polo-mint jeans”, she said - were among the most memorable while a high-waisted cropped style looked set to appeal to the fashion consumer.

While Beckham continues to show her main line at New York Fashion Week, her decision to unveil the Victoria line in the capital today — albeit at small appointments — suggested the designer may well be ready to reconsider staging a catwalk show for one of her labels on the London Fashion Week schedule.
