She may have shown up fashionably late, but Rihanna – who snuck in after the red carpet had ended – was undoubtedly among the best dressed at last night’s Golden Globes.

Wearing a custom black velvet Schiaparelli ballgown with sculptural ruched collar, the musician and mogul entered the venue with boyfriend and baby daddy A$AP Rocky as Jennifer Coolidge presented the award for Best Supporting Actor in a TV series, taking their seats in one of the rows closest to the stage.

Rihanna was nominated for Best Original Song for the Black Panther single, “Lift Me Up” which she made with Ludwig Göransson and Tems, alongside Taylor Swift for Where the Crawdads Sing’s “Carolina”; and Lady Gaga for Top Gun: Maverick’s “Hold My Hand.” All three songstresses lost out on the night to Telugu-language movie RRR’s “Naatu Naatu.”

Runner up she may have been, but Rihanna was, as ever, nothing of the sort in the style stakes. The ruched black figure-hugging dress came with a dramatic floorlength cape that gave a floating effect as she moved through the room. Finishing the bombshell look with a bejewelled black Roger Vivier clutch, Giuseppe Zanotti heels and a healthy dose of Chopard diamonds. RiRi wore her hair styled in a sleek Princess Lea-esque up do — a lesson in how to serve sequin and sparkle-free gala gown drama.

It’s been a busy week for Rihanna, who launched a game day collection from her clothing brand Savage x Fenty, ahead of her first halftime Superbowl performance next month.
