Hollywood glamour lit up Leicester Square last night, as Julia Roberts joined co-star George Clooney and his wife Amal for the grass carpeted, high gloss premiere of their new film Ticket To Paradise.

Dressing to impress with a custom gown by Alexander McQueen, the American actress struck a subtle note between unconventional and undeniably chic – but it was the details that got people talking.

The Chantilly lace dress she opted for was hand-embroidered in London by the McQueen ateliers, and came adorned with crystals, beads and sequins to spell out personalised messages. Glimmering on the frock were the initials of her husband Daniel Moder and children Henry, 15, and twins Hazel and Phinnaeus.

It also had special dates – like 2002, the year Roberts got married – words like ‘hope’ and ‘darling’, and cupid shot love hearts. Romantic – if a little on the nose.

She added structure to the flowing gown with a cropped tuxedo jacket in black wool silk, which came with flattering, three-quarter length sleeves and padded shoulders.

The look was put together by LA stylist Elizabeth Stewart, a big-hitter behind some of Amanda Seyfried, Cate Blanchett and Jessica Chastain’s most memorable looks.

Roberts was not the sole standout on the carpet, however, as Amal Cloony turned heads in her slinky 1920s-style slip dress which is likely to be one of her vintage finds. The human rights lawyer is known for a penchant for pre-loved goods – her archive gown collection counts the designs of Dior and Bill Blass – and sparkled yesterday evening with the additon of some drop Cartier diamond earrings.

‘Ticket To Paradise’, a rom-com which follows stars Roberts and Clooney as two exes who travel to Bali to stop their daughter making the same mistake they once made, is out on the September 16.
