Five times *NSYNC were so '90s it hurt

Might sound crazy but it ain't no lie

*NSYNC, who on Monday April 30 were honoured with their own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, were one of the most successful boy bands of the 90s.

Founded in Florida in 1995, by the time they split in 2002, they had sold more than 40 million records worldwide.

Aside however from their indubitable musical prowess, we’d like to take a moment to appreciate the band’s iconic 90s style.

From tie-dye tops and mesh sleeves to embellished denim jackets and polo necks, the five-man American boy band preached a fun and flamboyant dress code that signalled an era of sartorial freedom for boys.

Shirts with large pointy collars were paired with lashings of surfer dude necklaces and endless leather and denim jackets. Headgear of all kinds was embraced, from bucket hats and Trilbies to bandanas and visors, as was experimenting with hair colour and style – from cornrows to red and blue dye, gelled spikes and plenty of terrible, terrible goatees.

What a time it was to be alive.

In the gallery above we’ve collated all their best ever looks, and below five unmissable highlights

1. That time they discovered brocade

*NSYNC were nothing if not experimental with their suiting, and at the 2001 Grammy Awards they really expressed themselves. Lance Bass and Chris Kirkpatrick made the case for brocade, JT paired his long brown velvet jacket and trousers with a rather suspect satin shirt and oversized tie, while JC Chasez went for the oh-so-90's polo neck and jacket combo. Suits were always worn hanging off the shoulders and too long in the arm, as though they'd pinched them from their dads. Who knows, perhaps they had.

2. That time they reinterpreted the grey suit

In true 90s boyband style, *NSYNC were partial to coordinating their outfits along a theme. At the 44th Annual Grammy Awards in 2002, we assume the theme was space businessman. If so, they nailed it. Particular highlights to note are Chris Kirkpatrick's deconstructed suiting (so 2018) and square-toed silver loafers, JT's layered necklaces and kaftan combo and JC Chasez's really rather excellent silver biker jacket.

3. The time Justin got cornrows

JT has since expressed regret at this choice of hairstyle, along with that time he did matching denim with then-girlfriend Britney Spears at the 2001 American Music Awards. In an interview with Playboy he said: 'That was pretty bad.' We sorry to say it JT, but we agree.

4. That time Joey Fatone made mesh happen (kinda)

I mean you've gotta give credit where it's due, and fair play to Joey Fatone. Not only did he leave the house wearing this mesh sleeved abomination but he kinda owned it.

(side note: Justin's tan leather jacket is totally on the money)

Let's just take a moment here.

Just wow.
