Planning an outfit for Halloween is usually the time to get your glue gun out and let your creativity flow, but last night's guests at Harper's Bazaar's Women of the Year Awards were a little more understated.

Rather than straying entirely from festivities, however, a number of the guests found a sartorial balance for the occasion.

Emma Watson - who won the evening's award for Inspiration - stood out thanks to her wonderfully Halloween-appropriate Dior gown featuring embellished bat detailing on a black bustier-like bodice and a flowing tulle-layered hem.

British model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley was also in attendance, collecting the award for best Businesswoman.

Giving her outfit its own Halloween twist, the 29-year-old paired her black high-waisted cigarette trousers with an Eightees inspired leopard-print one-shouldered top with a wonderfully-exaggerated shoulder pad.

Another star who injected a subtle hint of halloween into her look was British actress Keira Knightley, who won the evening's award for Theatre Icon.

The gown was a striking jade green hue and featured a horizontally pleated organza bodice with high neck before flowing into a layered tulle hemline in what became a more elegant and modern take on the recognisable Halloween skirt of a witch's costume.
