Diane Von Furstenberg turned her New York fashion week show into a party - with Gigi Hadid, Kendall Jenner and Karlie Kloss leading the celebrations.

The designer of the iconic wrap scrapped the fashion show format for the celebration at her brand’s spiritual home in the city’s Meatpacking District.

Guests were welcomed by models, who also included Jourdan Dunn wearing Von Furstenberg’s latest creations

Before the show Von Furstenberg, who is also the chair of the Council of Fashion Designers of America, cited “a desire to reconsider the ways in which designers present their clothes” as motivation for the shift in format.

The development follows Burberry and Tom Ford announcing plans to make collections available immediately.

Von Furstenberg noted the importance of social media and said “creating intimacy” with the customer was key to a successful 21st century brand.

“We want our clothes to be every woman’s best friend, this is a way to realise that,” she said.

The collection took working women as its inspiration.

Daywear included pussy-bow blouses, were layered under tank tops and printed jumpsuits with flat shoes.

For evening wear, Von Furstenberg’sThose signature wrap dresses were shown alongside bohemian gowns cut to reveal the back. Jacquard kimonos with oversized belts also featured, while billowing gowns and blouson sleeve jumpsuits evoked the glamour of her heyday at Studio 54,.

While there was little about the clothes on offer that suggested a brave new world for her customers, there is no denying the fact that Von Furstenberg’s brand is on its game.
