Chanel takes high fashion into space

Karl Lagerfeld took the fashion world on a flight of fancy today as his latest haute couture collection for Chanel was unveiled in Paris.

On a set which had been decked out to look like a luxury spaceship, models showed off beautifully sculpted dresses and jackets detailed with iridescent beads.

Shades of blue dominated the collection which had a decidedly futuristic feel.

Evoking the idea of the intergalactic air stewardess, the classic Chanel suit was given a space-age twist. Jackets came with large contrasting cuffs and collars and were teamed with angular mini-skirts.

The outer space theme continued on tights printed with large gold stars, and models sported spiky mohawk-inspired hairstyles.
