My advice? Invest. Quality tailoring is rarely found on the sale rail.

But that’s not to say that the high street isn’t a gold mine of great options, providing you know where to look. At the high end, Joseph and Jigsaw are the cream of the crop for design-forward but not trend-led styles. AllSaints and Arket are also laden with classics that will feel fresh for years to come, while the most affordable forever blazers on the market can be found at M&S and Uniqlo.

Grey, navy and black are the safest bets, but cream and white are versatile additions. Prints can also prove perennial, providing you seek out traditional takes such as pinstripe or check.
