Down the cakehole: Easter treats

Easter treat: Sweet Things' cupcakes
10 April 2012

Supplies are already dwindling as far as Easter eggs are concerned, so if you have not yet stocked up you can go down the cake route instead.

This year, while good sponge is a must, it is mainly about how many rabbits, chicks or eggs you can balance on top. At Natalie Allen's Sweet Things, half a dozen chocolate and vanilla mini Easter cupcakes nestle in a plastic egg box with three mini eggs perched on top. Gluten-free versions are available too
(six mini Easter cupcakes in a box cost £13.20 or £2.20 each; sweetthings.biz).

At the Primrose Bakery, now in Covent Garden too, you can get an entire family of chicks or just one plastic hen roosting on a bouncy cupcake. It sells traditional vanilla and chocolate flavours but also coconut and lime, rose, chocolate and marshmallow, and even caramel (£2.25 each, 69 Gloucester Avenue, NW1 and 42 Tavistock Street, WC2,primrosebakery.org).

Finally, if it's just a mouthful you want, grab a pretty bunny-shaped Cake Pop on a stick for £2.50 from POP bakery (opbakery.co.uk).
