Yet more heavy downpours set to sweep country

Forecasters have predicted that more heavy downpours will sweep across large parts of England and Wales today as the wet and miserable summer continues.

A heavy band of rain stretching from west Wales to north-east England will gradually spread to the South later in the day, although London may escape the worst of the weather.

The villages of Lochearnhead, Stirlingshire, and Boscastle, Cornwall, both scenes of devastation from this week's deluges, are also likely to escape.

Much of Scotland will have a drier and brighter day after yesterday's heavy showers, while Boscastle should enjoy dry conditions following a showery start.

Some respite from the miserable weather is likely tomorrow, with Britain set to enjoy a dry and sunny day.

It will be brief, however, with more rain from the West on Sunday afternoon.
