Vodafone denies 3G setback

12 April 2012

MOBILE phones giant Vodafone said the timetable for the launch of its 3G mobile phone service has not changed.

A spokesman for the company said that while Vodafone is opening its 3G network this year, it will not be marketing the service to customers until next year.

He said that certain observers have made assumptions regarding the launch date but Vodafone has always made its timetable very clear and nothing has changed. He was speaking after a report in the Financial Times that said Vodafone has postponed the launch of its 3G service in the UK until next year because of a shortage of suitable handsets.

The report follows the revelation on THursday that Vodafone has put back the planned launch of 3G services in Germany by six months.
