12 April 2012

IT services group Virtual Internet is to be bought by US rival Register.com in a £12 million deal, it emerged today.

London-based Virtual, a provider of online intellectual property protection and web hosting services, first revealed it was in takeover talks in December but the discussions ground to a halt last week.

However, Virtual and New York-based Register - which specialises in domain names - have since resumed talks and today the directors called on shareholders to approve the final cash offer.Virtual chairman William Slee said the deal would be a significant development for the company.

He added: "Having achieved much in the last few years, the board considers the company will be better able to execute its strategy as part of the Register.com group, which has greater resources and presence in complementary international markets."
