US terrorist: I threatened creators of South Park

Innocent: the characters of cartoon South Park
12 April 2012

An American admitted posting online death threats to the creators of South Park for insulting the prophet Mohammed.

Zachary A Chesser, 20, of Alexandria, Virginia, also pleaded guilty to supporting al Shabab, a Somalian terror group linked to al Qaeda. He is expected to be jailed for at least 20 years when he is sentenced in February.

Chesser tried twice to travel to Somalia to join the al Shabab terror network to fight holy war. He was thwarted the first time because his mother-in-law would not give up the passport of his wife, who intended to travel with him. He failed a second time because he had been put on the no-fly list.

Chesser posted internet links to identify the Colorado home of South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone because he was angry at an episode that poked fun at the prophet Mohammed by dressing him in a bear costume.

Virginia attorney Neil MacBride said: "Zachary Chesser seriously endangered the lives of innocent people. His solicitation of extremists to murder US citizens also caused people to fear speaking out — even in jest — lest they also be labelled as enemies who deserved to be killed."
