Tube delays as engineering work runs over

Tens of thousands of Tube commuters suffered delays on five lines today because night engineering work failed to finish on time.

Jubilee line services were disrupted by the over-running of work at Willesden Green. This also affected Metropolitan line services.

In addition, work failed to finish on schedule in Whitechapel, affecting the District and Circle lines and the Hammersmith & City line. There were also delays on the Central line, caused by a signal failure in the Redbridge area.

Meanwhile, passengers face a threat of wildcat strike action on the network over the dismissal of eight maintenance workers after empty beer and cider cans were found at their Farringdon mess room.
