Thieves break into Elle's £2m home

Police are investigating a robbery at the Notting Hill home of supermodel Elle Macpherson.

Thieves overcame an elaborate security system to break into the £2 million home the 38-year-old Australian shares with Swiss banker Arpad Busson and their four-year-old son Flynn.

The break-in came two months after the Notting Hill home of Geri Halliwell was ransacked and £80,000 worth of jewellery and other goods stolen.

A spokesman for Scotland Yard today confirmed that a specialist police burglary and robbery unit known as the "focus team" from the Kensington and Chelsea division was investigating the latest burglary.

"Inquiries are continuing and no arrests have been made," a spokesman said. "At the victim's request we cannot say what was taken."

Police declined to say how thieves managed to break in or whether Miss Macpherson or her family were home at the time of the raid on 23 May.

Miss Macpherson has backed her modelling career with an equally successful worldwide lingerie empire.

The thieves who broke into Miss Halliwell's Notting Hill house smashed four locks on the front door and evaded a closed-circuit television system.

The police focus team is investigating the recent increase in the number of burglaries and robberies in the area.

Tara Newley, daughter of Joan Collins, was mugged for her watch in Notting Hill last year. Madonna's £3 million rented Kensington home was also broken into.

Lady Elizabeth Anson, cousin of the Queen, suffered two burglaries at her Holland Park home.

The Primrose Hill home of Les Dennis and Amanda Holden was also broken into.
