More people dodge buying a TV licence in London than anywhere else in the UK, new figures show.

The Standard can reveal the five boroughs where most evaders were caught last year - and Hackney tops the list with 6,108.

Then come Camden (5,950), Waltham Forest (5,732), Newham (5,370) and Islington (5,283). Overall some 37,078 Londoners were caught out.

Speaking of a new enforcement campaign and £1,000 fine, Vanessa Wood of TV Licensing said: "We want to encourage as many people as possible to get a licence."
