Staff walkouts loom at Sainsbury

THOUSANDS of staff at the Sainsbury's supermarkets group are threatening to strike after being told they will not get a pay rise this year.

Union leaders will meet company executives tomorrow to express their concern at the wage freeze.

The strike threat comes from those who have lost out under the company's new pay structure called - ironically -Rewarding Great Service.

One woman with 25 years service said: 'I am disgusted at being treated this way.'

A spokesman for the company, whose previous chief executive Sir Peter Davis earned £1m last year, said: 'We endeavour to treat all our colleagues fairly.'
