Shot Davies in good spirits

Shooting star: Ray Davies is recovering well
13 April 2012

Ray Davies, lead singer of The Kinks, is recovering in hospital today after being shot in the leg while chasing a mugger in New Orleans.

Davies, 59, had handed over his money when two men grabbed his girlfriend and, holding a gun to her head, threatened to kill her. He was shot as he chased after the thieves on Sunday.

His agent, Paul Charles, said: "He's fine, he's in great spirits, and well on the way to recovery. He's very fit and very energetic but the doctors want to keep him in for observation."

Police said one person had been arrested.
