'Severed head' suspect charged

Martin Delgado12 April 2012

Richard Markham was today charged with the murder of his friend Tristian Lovelock, whose dismembered body was found scattered in a park in Basingstoke.

Richard Markham, 27, arrived at Heathrow from New York, accompanied by two detectives from Hampshire police this morning.

He had fled to America after the dismembered body of father-of-two Tristian Lovelock was found, and was arrested by US police in New York's Central Park. He waived his right to fight extradition.

Today he returned to London on a scheduled BA flight. Waiting for him were two police vans and six uniformed officers.

Markham was led from the plane by two detectives, transferred to a Hampshire police station, and charged with the murder of his friend.

He is due to appear in court later today.
