Severe storm warning for Friday

13 April 2012

Severe storms bringing torrential rain and possible flooding are on the way, forecasters warned today.

Southern England, south Wales, the Midlands and East Anglia are expected to be among the worst hit areas when bad weather arrives tomorrow.

High winds and heavy rain are expected in the rest of the country.

Joanne Grimshaw, from the PA WeatherCentre, said: "Southern England, south Wales, the Midlands and East Anglia should expect storms with torrential rain and gale force winds, which could reach up to severe gale force in coastal and exposed areas.

"During the afternoon the winds will ease and it will brighten up with the occasional sunshine and showers."

A spokeswoman for the Environment Agency said there was a possibility of floods in some parts.

She added: "We currently have two flood watches issued in Cambridgeshire. There is a possibility of further warnings being issued in Wales and the South East within the next few days."
