Public are supporting the couple's decision

Charles and Camilla can enjoy the support of the British public over their decision to get married, according to a snap poll today.

In a This is London survey, 59 per cent of people said they backed the wedding decision.

There have been concerns that there would be strong opposition to the couple getting engaged, particularly among supporters of Princess Diana.

However, Charles and Camilla have spent many years trying to gain public support as a couple, making an increasing number of public appearances together.

More than 1,900 people voted in the poll, with 59 per cent backing the marriage and 41% opposing it.
