£50m boost for Oxford Mini plant

12 April 2012

MOTOR giant BMW is investing another £50m at its UK plant that builds the Mini following the car's 'astounding success', it was announced today.

Hundreds of new jobs are also being created at the German-owned car-maker's plants, in Oxford, Swindon and Birmingham.

The Oxford plant will build the 100,000th Mini later this month, 13 months after production on the redesigned model started.

'The Mini is clearly an international success story,' Dr Norbert Reithofer, BMW board member for production said during a visit to the Oxford factory today.

Americans bought 1,559 Minis in April, which was the first full month of Mini sales in the US.
