£4.5million to launch new comedy stars

12 April 2012

Peep Show star David Mitchell is backing a campaign to raise £4.5 million to help future generations of comedians, writers and actors.

The money will be used to develop rehearsal spaces and put on shows at The Pleasance theatres in Islington and Edinburgh.

Mitchell, whose comedy partner is Robert Webb, said: "At the beginning of our careers, the Pleasance was one of the few places where Robert's and my ridiculous attempts to amuse people were welcomed."

David Seidler, who wrote the script for The King's Speech, is also supporting the campaign.
