Postal and proxy voting

13 April 2012

If you are not going to be able to vote in person on June 10 there is still a way to make sure that your voice is heard.

Postal votes

You can now choose to vote by post without having to provide a reason for doing so.

To vote by post you must complete an application form and return it to your local borough council. To get the form you can contact your local borough's election office and ask for a postal voting application form or visit www.aboutmyvote.com and download the form.

Your local authority must receive your application by 5pm on 2 June. If you already have a postal vote and need to change your request or update your details, you must do this by 5pm on 25 May

When you receive your ballot papers, complete them and return them in the envelope provided, but make sure that you do so before the given deadline.

Proxy votes

If you want to instruct someone else to vote on your behalf you have to give a specific reason, such as being physically incapacitated or out of London on election day.

To apply for a proxy vote contact your local borough's election office by 5pm on June 24.
