Police make arrest after dying man is dumped at hospital

13 April 2012

Police arrested a man today in connection with the murder of an unknown man who was dumped at a hospital just hours before he died.

The man, believed to be of South East Asian origin, was carried into the accident and emergency department of the Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport, South Wales, on Monday.

Gwent Police detectives have now arrested a 40-year-old man from the Newport area in connection with the murder. He is currently being questioned by police.

"We can confirm that officers have been carrying out enquiries at premises in the Ringwood Avenue and Chepstow road areas of Newport," a spokesman said.

"Enquiries are continuing into the circumstances surrounding the death of the male who remains unidentified at this time."

He said that the victim is aged between 25 and 35, had short dark hair with a faded red (possibly henna) dye at the ends.

He was wearing fawn combat trousers, a charcoal grey zip-up jumper, a khaki coloured canvas jacket and black, red and white Adidas 'Blades' football boots.

The clothes were too big for the man wearing them, which may mean they are not his.

Anyone with information is asked to call Gwent Police on 01633 838111 or anonymously on Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
