Police catch themselves in clampdown

A police operation to tackle speeding drivers caught 12 of the force's officers, it emerged today.

North Wales Police's Arrive Alive campaign captured 102 force vehicles breaking the speed limit over the last year.

In 82 cases the vehicle was answering a 999 call and eight of the incidents are still being assessed.

But in 12 cases the driver had no legitimate excuse and was fined £60 and lost three penalty points. Spokeswoman Beth Mitcheson said: "Nobody is above the law."
