Plan for ice rink on common is shelved

The venue was proposed to replace a nearby ice rink which is to be redeveloped by Tesco.

Protesters argued that a rink on the common would be an eyesore and ruin the grass, and feared it would become a permanent fixture.

Lambeth councillors are proposing that a car park in Brixton is used for the temporary venue. Work could start early next year. Bridged Hall, of Hands Off Our Common group, welcomed the decision.
