Space age: Parachute dress
Amar Singh13 April 2012

FROM space-age garments to pop art-inspired outfits, a collection of 20th century fashion is to go under the hammer at Christie's.

The show will feature work from some of the most experimental designers from the Sixties to the Nineties including Zandra Rhodes, Yves Saint Laurent, Pierre Cardin, Vivienne Westwood, Gianni Versace and Issey Miyake.

Estimates range from £500 to £10,000 for more than 250 garments, headwear and jewellery.

A spectacular orange Norma Kamali "parachute" dress (circa 1975), pictured right, is estimated to fetch £1,000-£2,000.

Highlights include key pieces from Paco Rabanne collections, including an aluminium riveted plate dress (£5,000-£7,000) and a full-length wedding dress made from plates of white leather linked by metal rings (£6,000-£8,000).

The collection being sold is owned by Mark Haddawy and Katy Rodriguez who founded Resurrection shops in 1996 and own the popular boutiques in Los Angeles and New York.

Resurrection: Avant-Garde Fashion is at Christie's South Kensington saleroom on 30 October.
