PA girl is posher than Posh

Born into one of Madrid's most eminent families, Rebecca Loos possesses an intrinsic upper-class confidence that 'Posh' Spice Victoria Beckham can only dream of.

The daughter of Dutch diplomat Leendert Willem Alberto Loos Bartholdi and his English wife Elizabeth, she still lives with her parents in a rambling seven-bedroom mansion in one of the Spanish capital's most exclusive suburbs.

Miss Loos, who despite being born in Spain and speaking the language fluently has a 'cut-glass' English accent, was educated at the most expensive and exclusive English school in the country, Runnymede College.

The £1,100-a-term school stands in extensive grounds not far from the Beckhams' rented mansion. It had been thought the couple could send their eldest son, Brooklyn, there.

Miss Loos obtained 11 GCSEs and three A-levels, as well as learning to speak several languages.

One former school friend said: 'Rebecca was a popular girl at school, often the centre of attention or organising parties.

'She is typically Dutch - very open and a "people person" - which is probably why she went into PR. It's what I imagine she would be very good at.'

Miss Loos left school in 1996 and started work in the banking industry before moving into PR. She was quickly snapped up by the Madrid office of the global management company SFX and started work in its tennis division.

When David Beckham moved out to Spain last summer, Miss Loos - who is well regarded as a good organiser and excellent communicator - was enlisted to help the family settle in.

She worked closely with both Beckham and his wife for several months, helping them to find a house and generally getting over the cultural and language barrier.

Following the initial furore over their relationship, she was moved to more menial duties. And when Beckham removed his business from the company last November she was made redundant.

In December she found another job, working as a personal assistant to a managing director in the banking industry.

A family friend said yesterday: 'Rebecca is an attractive and cultured young lady. Although she was born in Madrid, she went to a private English school and walks, talks and dresses like a girl from Chelsea.'
