Nurse held after death of patient

A nurse has been arrested on suspicion of poisoning an elderly patient who later died.

Police investigating the death of great-grandfather Kenneth Heaton, 79, at Hull Royal Infirmary questioned then bailed the 25-year-old. They are also looking into other deaths on her ward.

The nurse has been suspended from duty since suspicions were first raised about Mr Heaton's death on 2 January. A police spokesman stressed that this is not yet a murder investigation. They do not yet know if a criminal offence has been committed.

There is nothing to suggest there have been an abnormal number of deaths on the ward in the 30 months the nurse is thought to have worked there.
