Now doing a Delia means to give up drinking

12 April 2012

Delia Smith has taken a break from alcohol "after one hangover too many" over Christmas.

The 60-year-old cookery writer says on her website: "I got a bit partied-out and after one hangover too many I swore to be a reformed character - not permanently, you understand, but for a full 30 days. I've never been a hard drinker, but I do rather like a lot of wine. Alas, I'm simply not now or ever going to be a one-glass girl. If I'm drinking then I'm drinking, and whatever the contents of the glass are it's very quickly emptied."

Last year her name entered the Collins dictionary, thanks to the phrase "doing a Delia".
