Nick Clegg 'more popular with Tories than his own party'

New friends: Nick Clegg's popularity has shot up with the Tories
12 April 2012

Nick Clegg is far more popular among Tory voters than Liberal Democrats for the way he is doing his job, according to a new poll.

Four out of five Conservatives are satisfied with the Deputy Prime Minister's performance and 14 per cent dissatisfied, according to the Reuters/Ipsos MORI poll

But only 67 per cent of Liberal Democrats say they are happy with Mr Clegg, with 21 per cent dissatisfied.

Support among Tories for David Cameron as Prime Minister is rock solid at 91 per cent - and two third of Lib-Dems are also satisfied with him.

Backing for Labour has soared. The party is level-pegging with the Conservatives for the first time for more than two years, as it has risen to 37 per cent approval and the Tories have dropped three points.

For the first time since the election, more people were dissatisfied than satisfied with the Government - 47 per cent compared with 43 per cent.

The Liberal Democrats have suffered most since the formation of the coalition, falling to 15 per cent compared with 23 per cent in May.
