My London: Felicity Kendal

12 April 2012
Living

Eating I have four places that I frequent: Sandrini, off Brompton Road, La Familia, Fulham, the Ivy and Choy's on the King's Road.

Drinking I never drink in bars. I either drink when I'm eating or after the show at home.

Dancing The best dancing was at my friend's Bar Mitzvah, and to Stevie Wonder with my baby granddaughter.

Exercising I do yoga regularly (not the quick-fry sort favoured by the likes of Madonna) and stretching and lifting weights at Holmes Place, Chelsea. Or in the dressing room before the show.

Working The Apollo Theatre.

Learning I read, read, read, books, books, books. Italian is my New Year's resolution, Native American teachings and the Old Testament.

Dressing I like labels such as Armani, Amanda Wakeley, L.K. Bennett, Earl jeans and the Banana Republic (like Gap but better), USA. I also wear a lot of silks and scarfs from India. And I like tracksuits.

Walking I love walking. Regent's Park, or anywhere green at all for that matter, as long as it's somewhere green and not the street.

Rummaging All the time, and mostly in my cupboards, which I tend to go through, never find anything and then put things away again. I'm an absolute squirrel like that. I spend a long time rummaging through bazaars in India, where I go every year.

Romance The bridges of London are tremendously romantic, as is the Thames.

Escaping I do a certain amount of meditation (which isn't necessarily escaping). And by being with my little granddaughter I escape, as she's a very peaceful child.

Collecting Things to do with elephants. Mostly Indian paintings, carvings, silver and antiques. I haven't got a real one yet, but I really love elephants.

Inspiring A show called Stones In His Pockets (the Duke Of York's, WC2), is the most inspiring show I've seen in years. The whole show and the performances are just so up there with the here and now - it's just brilliant.

Dreaming That I can finish the novel I've started, and of having more time without giving anything up - which is obviously a complete fantasy.

Avoiding Tube trains, bars, cocktail parties and balls. As for charity balls, I do a lot of charity, but I won't dance for it.

Felicity Kendal stars in Fallen Angels, Mon-Sun until Sat 14 Apr, Apollo Theatre, 29 Shaftesbury Avenue, W1 (020-7494 5070).
