Met to raid Olympic ticket touting gangs

12 April 2012

Police are to carry out dawn raids across Britain in an operation to crack down on a suspected ticket touting operation before the Olympics.

Officers from the Met's Operation Podium unit will target suspected organised crime gangs in next month's raids and could seize assets.

Detective Inspector Nick Downing said his unit had made 32 arrests since it was set up last June.

About 6.6 million tickets go on sale to the public for six weeks starting on March 15.

It is thought that organised criminals are poised to buy up tickets and flood the black market.
