Then and now: Bianca and Jade Jagger

Bianca Jagger and her daughter Jade were seen out shopping last weekend in Manhattan, both wearing copious amounts of fur, and both looking spookily alike. Jade has inherited her mother's Latin looks, with a high forehead and thick head of hair, but has always had a busier, more bohemian fashion sense than her mum's (lots of turquoise jewellery and tie-dyed sarongs).

But as she gets older you can imagine her gleefully raiding a wardrobe packed with original, monochrome Yves Saint Laurent and Halston outfits that have finally come back in to fashion.

It must be soul-destroying as a celebrity mum, raising a daughter who is a daily reminder of how gorgeous and pert-bottomed you once were. Madonna cannot help but gaze at Lourdes (already showing signs of becoming a beauty, and soon to outstrip her mother height-wise) and yearn for the days when she could read her press cuttings without specs.

Jerry Hall doesn't have to leaf through copies of Vogue from the Seventies to remind herself of how she has decomposed; she only has to step out with daughter Elizabeth, who not only has her mother's hair and teeth, but also her mannerisms (note the mirrorimage hand gestures).

So, how to avoid being seen out and about with a delicious doppelganger? Do as Victoria Beckham has wisely done. Only give birth to boys ...
