A severe weather warning has been issued for London as the capital and its airports brace for more heavy fog.

The Met Office is warning flights could be affected by the fog on Wednesday while drivers are being urged to take extra care out on the roads.

Forecasters say patches of fog and mist will start to develop on Tuesday evening.

By Wednesday morning, the foggy conditions will be heavier and more widespread across London and the south east.

A Met Office spokesman said: “Patches of fog are expected to form overnight and whilst not all areas will see them where fog patches do form visibility could be less than 100 metres.

“The fog patches are expected to slowly thin during Wednesday, although some patches may persist throughout the day.”

Wednesday is expected to see highs of 5C in London, with an overcast early afternoon eventually giving way to some brighter spells.

The news comes after foggy weather caused huge disruption for people planning to fly in and out of London in the run-up to Christmas.
