Latest crisis to hit Windsor wedding

The clash with the Pope's funeral is the latest in a series of catastrophes to beset the royal wedding.

It would be understandable if Charles were feeling jinxed over his second marriage which has been beset by a host of damaging, undignified blunders, which include:

  • News of the wedding was leaked early to the Evening Standard creating chaos in the royal household

demeaning".

  • The wedding was originally due to be held in Windsor Castle until experts pointed out it would have to be open to the public and civil weddings would be able to take place there for the next three years.
  • It has been disrupted by a series of legal challenges to the heir to the throne getting married in a register office.
  • A furious row over Camilla's future title, with the Government admitting it would need a change in the law to prevent her becoming Queen Camilla.
  • The official engagement photograph, it emerged, was taken by a chef who demanded royalties.

The latest setback for the couple has left them with no choice but to consider postponing their marriage, mindful of the sensitivities of hosting a celebration on the day of the Pope's funeral.

Police may now have the headache of organising a new security operation with the additional costs that is likely to involve.
