Kate is people’s choice to be their princess

Poll position: most want Kate to wed Wills
13 April 2012

Prince William's girlfriend Kate Middleton has won a resounding vote of confidence as the next "People's Princess" from the internet generation.

In a poll for AOL, the internet service provider, 73 per cent (98,287) of the 134,640 voters backed her to wed William and step into the late Princess Diana's role.

Only 16 per cent (21,452) said they were "not sure" and the lowest number of 11 per cent (14,810) said they could not see Kate as the new "People's Princess".

The poll comes amid growing speculation that William and Kate's four-year relationship could be formalised soon.

Despite William's claim that he is "too young to marry", many royal insiders say it is only a matter of time before an engagement.

Bookmaker William Hill recently slashed the odds on the couple getting engaged this year from 6/1 to 3/1 after Kate was pictured in a bikini with William on Ibiza. A spokesman said: "Punters obviously think that William would be mad not to pop the question."
