Jodi killer to appeal

Teenage killer Luke Mitchell is intending to appeal his conviction for the murder of his girlfriend Jodi Jones, it emerged today.

Mitchell, 16, has lodged an "intimation of intention to appeal", the Justiciary Office at the High Court in Edinburgh confirmed.

He was ordered to serve at least 20 years before being considered for parole after being found guilty of killing 14-year-old Jodi.

The High Court in Edinburgh heard Jodi was stripped, tied up and stabbed to death in woods near her Dalkeith home.

Mitchell, from Dalkeith, Midlothian had denied killing Jodi in June 2003 and his defence lawyer continued to protest his innocence at Friday's sentencing.
