Jay Kay assault charges dropped

12 April 2012

Pop singer Jay Kay was today having criminal charges against him formally dropped, the Crown Prosecution Service said.

The Jamiroquai front man had been facing accusations of common assault and criminal damage - which he denied - relating to a fracas outside trendy Attica nightclub in London in April this year.

But today the case was to be officially discontinued at a hearing at Bow Street Magistrates Court, the CPS said.

A spokeswoman said there was insufficient evidence against Kay, 31, from Buckinghamshire.

At an earlier hearing, Kay had pleaded not guilty to allegations he smashed camera equipment worth £256 belonging to Dennis Gill, and common assault on Mr Gill.

The CPS said the matter would now be closed.
