iPad fans rush to buy American imports

Apple's announcement that it is delaying the UK launch of the iPad will trigger an explosion in black market imports, experts warned today.

Hundreds of Britons are believed to have imported US iPads. They sell for up to £1,000 on eBay, despite costing $499 in the US.

"Consumers are desperate for the iPad and a lot of them will resort to the black market to get one," said Tom Dunmore of Stuff magazine.

But users will not be able to download apps without a US account with Apple's iTunes store. They will also need to buy a power adapter.
