How Maddy's fund was spent

THE fund set up to help find Madeleine McCann raised almost £2million in its first 10 months - with well-wishers giving money at a rate of almost £260 an hour, accounts show today.

During that time £815,113 was spent on the search for the toddler, including £250,000 on private investigator fees, figures from Companies House show.

The fund has suffered a dramatic downturn in donations since the initial surge from May 2007 to March 2008.

However, it has been boosted by several libel payouts to Maddy's parents Kate and Gerry McCann and their friends - the so-called Tapas Seven.
