Hoon: Anger of troop families is not justified

Defence Secretary Geoff Hoon today appeared to dismiss the Black Watch families' reaction to the regiment's deployment and attacked Scottish National Party leader Alex Salmond for making capital out of the issue.

Speaking on Radio 4's Today programme, Mr Salmond said: "I know the families and I have spoken to some of them. There is general concern about the nature of this deployment and there is anger that they should be left in this position."

But when Mr Hoon was asked if that anger was justified, he replied: "No, it is not. And the leader of the SNP demonstrates there are no depths to which he will not sink."
