Griff Rhys Jones: did he reach the top?

The BBC was at the centre of another TV fakery row today. The latest alleged deception surrounds whether presenter Griff Rhys Jones had reached the very top of the tallest mountain in Britain.

In Mountain, which won Rhys Jones a Scottish Bafta, the comedian scales Ben Nevis. However, a later programme revealed that he had taken the "ledge route" up the mountain - which ends 129 metres lower than the absolute highest point of Ben Nevis.

A BBC spokesman said today it felt it "would have been overly technical" to explain the distinction to viewers.

Earlier this year the corporation was found to have misled viewers over the naming of the Blue Peter cat and a trailer claiming to show the Queen storming out of a photoshoot.
