Government to open £100m NHS Bank

THE Government is set to create an NHS bank, with an opening balance of £100m, as part of its plans to give the health service a more stable financial footing.

The NHS Bank will be used to pay for improvements and new equipment and could be a way of private investors to fund health service initiatives without Government intervention.

Health Secretary Alan Milburn is expected to unveil the bank this week.
