Gorillaz are virtually the best

In the 1970s we had progressive rock; the 1990s gave us the ubiquitous boy bands but, in the 21st century, the future of music appears to be virtual.

Last night, Gorillaz - the cartoon band dreamed up by Blur frontman Damon Albarn - picked up two trophies at the MTV Europe Awards, for best dance act and best song for the single, Clint Eastwood.

Singer Craig David made up for his disappointment at this year's Brits by being named best R'n'B act and best UK and Ireland act at a ceremony hosted by cult comedian Ali G. US rockers Limp Bizkit scooped best group, best album and best website for limpbizkit.com .
