Glazer's fancy Man U footwork

AMERICAN tycoon Malcolm Glazer has removed one of the stumbling blocks that prevented him taking control at Manchester United.

He is offering John Magnier and JP McManus, the company's largest investors, a concession to get his hands on their 28.9% share stake in the football club.

Glazer, with 28.1%, has made a subtle but significant change of stance. He is now willing to hand over the £230m for their shares once he has studied the company's books.

Before the change of tack he insisted on getting 75% investor support for his deal before parting with the cash.

This pre-condition was a deal breaker for the Irish duo. The concession has not yet tempted McManus and Magnier back to the negotiating table.

It is thought they also want Glazer to increase his offer by at least 10p a share to 310p.

Man U's board rejected Glazer's £800m indicative offer last month as it relied too heavily on debt financing, which is why he has renewed efforts to woo the company's main shareholders.
