Gatwick thieves drive off in 14 cars

Fourteen cars worth £400,000 were stolen at a Gatwick airport car park after the keys were left inside.

Thieves drove off unnoticed in the BMWs and Mercedes because the car park has no CCTV and gates were left open.

Owner Apcoa, which claims the car park has "gold standard" security, admitted the keys were left in cars to prevent any mix-up and to allow each car to be moved quickly in case of fire. The company says security has now been tightened.

Detectives are investigating the possibility that one of the thieves was employed at the airport.
