Galliano scraps his catwalk show at Paris Fashion Week

John Galliano: has cancelled his own label show

John Galliano has cancelled his own-label catwalk show at Paris Fashion Week following an alleged racist and anti-Semitic attack.

The latest collection from the British designer, due to be shown on Sunday, will now be viewed only at a private presentation for buyers and journalists.

Galliano, 50, was sacked as Christian Dior's chief designer amid the allegations of anti-Semitism but the fashion house's ready-to-wear presentation, which was overseen by him, was going ahead this afternoon.

The designer could face up to six months in jail and a fine of as much as £19,200 for allegedly hurling drunken abuse at a couple in a Paris café. He has apologised but denied the claims.

Today's Roland Mouret catwalk show in the French capital focused on calf-skimming skirts and dresses that banished thighs for autumn/winter. Mouret cited the famous picture of Diana Spencer in her see-through long skirt, when still an unmarried nursery nurse, as his inspiration: "You could just about make out the shape of her legs. It was a beautiful picture," he said.

Loosening up his signature, skintight style, Hollywood favourite Mouret presented wide trousers, frilled blouses, long skirts with side slits and evening gowns in strong, jewel tones.
