Fathers in Scottish Parliament protest

13 April 2012

Two protesters in Santa Claus outfits staged a rooftop protest at the Scottish Parliament today.

The pair braved icy cold to clamber on to a canopy above the Edinburgh parliament's public entrance.

Once perched on the canopy - about 50ft from the ground - the protesters strung out a banner saying: "Welcome to Fathers 4 Justice country."

The stunt coincided with the launch of a campaign for its network in Scotland later today.

Police cleared the area beneath the canopy and set up safety barriers on the pavement below before persuading the two men to come down.

The launch of the campaign in Scotland on St Andrew's Day is taking place tonight in Stirling.

Organisers claim a membership of around 400 in Scotland, and have promised headline-grabbing tactics of the type used in London, where they staged a stunt at Buckingham Palace.
